Location

Neptune Ayurveda Village is located at Moragalla, Beruwela, 60 kilometres from Colombo and 90 kilometres from the Bandaranaike International Airport, Katunayake. It is situated adjoining the Neptune Hotel, which is another member of the Aitken Spence Hotels group.

Beruwela is the starting point of a 130 km long stretch of golden beach which is one of the prime tourist attractions in Sri Lanka. The bay in the area is ideal for swimming almost around the year and has been one of the reasons for this popularity. The name 'Beruwela' is said to mean 'the place where the sail is lowered' in Sinhala.

The town was the location for the first Moorish settlement in the island, established by Arab traders who arrived there around the 8th Century CE. It, particularly the area identified as 'China Fort', is still home to a large population of Moors, many of them gem merchants. Beruwela is home to Masjidul Abrar, believed to be the oldest mosque in Sri Lanka, and Al-Fasiyatul Nasriya Muslim Balika Maha Vidyalaya, one of the first girls' schools in Sri Lanka.

You can hire a boat to the lighthouse raised on a small island off-shore which offers an excellent view over the coast line. Just off the coast are coral gardens, making this the perfect spot for divers and snorkelers to view spectacular marine life. Beruwela harbour is an interesting place to watch the fishermen unload their catch. The harbour has over 400 boats, many of them quite sizeable and able to handle fishing trips of up to two months at sea.
